🇨🇾 Cyprus digital nomad visa: requirements

Last checked: September 2026 · official government source

Cyprus is the outlier in this comparison, and its differences are the reason to consider it. It is in the EU but not in Schengen — so it is not part of the new Entry/Exit System, and days spent there do not burn your 90/180 Schengen allowance. English is used throughout the administration, and the non-dom tax rules are among the friendliest in Europe. The costs of that are a net (not gross) income test, a hard cap of 500 permits, and a medical-examination step no other country on this list asks for.

Digital Nomad Visa (temporary residence permit)
Income: ~€3,500/month · Insurance: required · Duration: 1 year, with a possibility of renewal for a further two years

⚠️ This is general information, not legal, immigration, tax or insurance advice. Rules change often — always confirm the current requirements with the official government source before you apply.

Income requirement

You need to show roughly €3,500 per month. €3,500 per month net — after the deduction of contributions and taxes. Cyprus is the only country here that specifies net rather than gross, so a €3,500 gross salary does not clear it. Add 20% for a spouse and 15% per child. There is also a hard cap: the scheme is limited to 500 residence permits in total, and the Migration Department confirmed in December 2025 that the ceiling remains 500 — despite guides claiming it was doubled to 1,000.

Health insurance

Private health insurance valid in Cyprus for the full stay, covering inpatient AND outpatient care plus repatriation of remains — nomads get no access to the national GESY system. This is the step that rejects the most applications, so it's worth getting right.

Tax

Spend more than 183 days in a tax year and you are treated as a Cypriot tax resident, provided you are not tax resident elsewhere. Cyprus's non-domiciled rules are generous on dividends and interest and are worth costing out with an adviser.

How long it lasts

1 year, with a possibility of renewal for a further two years. It is mainly a temporary route rather than a path to permanent residency.

Getting paid and staying connected

Two practical things every nomad sorts out on arrival: a low-fee way to receive income in euros, and mobile data from day one.
