🇪🇸 Spain digital nomad visa: requirements

Last checked: July 2026 · official government source

Spain runs one of Europe's most popular remote-work routes. It pairs a clear income threshold with a generous tax option and a path to long-term residency, which is why applications keep climbing year over year. The income bar tracks the Spanish minimum wage, so it moves every year — the figure below is the 2026 one.

Digital Nomad Visa (visado para teletrabajadores)
Income: ~€2,849/month · Insurance: required · Duration: 1-year visa from a consulate, or a 3-year residence permit if you apply from inside Spain

⚠️ This is general information, not legal, immigration, tax or insurance advice. Rules change often — always confirm the current requirements with the official government source before you apply.

Income requirement

You need to show roughly €2,849 per month. 200% of the Spanish minimum wage (SMI). The 2026 SMI is €1,221/month over 14 payments (Royal Decree 126/2026, in force since February 2026), which puts the bar at €2,849/month. Add about €1,060/month for the first family member and €357/month for each additional dependent. At least 80% of your income must come from outside Spain.

Health insurance

Full private health insurance from an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, with coverage equivalent to the public system, NO co-payments and NO waiting periods. This is the step that rejects the most applications, so it's worth getting right.

Tax

An optional special regime allows a flat 15% tax on income up to €600,000 for the first four years, instead of the progressive scale.

How long it lasts

1-year visa from a consulate, or a 3-year residence permit if you apply from inside Spain. It can lead to longer-term residency if you keep meeting the conditions.
